Solid State released the album in three different formats, each with its own unique bonuses. The lead single from the album was “Fading Away” and it was accompanied by a music video. Prior to its release, Demon Hunter had already issued three other singles, which were “Freedom is Dead,” “Silence the World,” and “Defense Mechanism.” Both “Silence the World” and “Defense Mechanism” featured guest appearances from Max Caval

Ryan Clark, of hardcore band Focal Point, was a member of the band during his teenage years and released an album on Tooth & Nail/Solid State. In February 2002, Demon Hunter released their debut track, “Through the Black,” on the Solid State Records imprint of Tooth & Nail Records. Their self-titled album was released in October of that year.

Ryan and Don wrote, performed, and sang all the songs on the album. They recruited Jesse Sprinkle from Poor Old Lu to record the drum tracks.
