Is Pro Tools Good? Everything You Need To Know

Is Pro Tools good?

In my opinion, it's great! And is still easily one of the best DAWs out there today.

Pro Tools is a versatile and trusted DAW that has been around for a long time. It's the industry standard and is used by many commercial studios around the world.

What I've always appreciated is that there are many different ways to access it, including subscription-based and educational discounts.

Pro Tools also works on every platform and is easy to use, making it a great choice for those who want to be able to work quickly and efficiently. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a user-friendly, reliable, and powerful DAW.

Learning How to use Pro Tools

Learning How to use Pro Tools

Like most DAWs, Pro Tools will take some learning. However, the basic functions can be explained quite easily:

•In Pro Tools, you can create a new session by going to ‘Track' and selecting ‘New.'

• You can choose between creating a mono or stereo track. If recording vocals, select mono. If using an instrument or multiple microphones, select stereo.

• The input and output for each track can be controlled in the ‘I/O' tab.

• To record onto a track, you must enable the track record button and press play/record on the transport simultaneously.

• Clips can be trimmed using the trim tool function in order to clean up recordings.

• To split clips into separate sections, use the edit function “separate clip at selection.” This allows you to move pieces of audio around independently from one another.

• The mixing and mastering process can be completed using Pro Tools' built-in effects, plugins, EQs, compressors, and more.

If you're just starting out with Pro Tools, there are countless resources available online to help you learn the basics and beyond.

I highly recommend checking out tutorial videos on YouTube or taking a course to learn everything about Pro Tools and how to use it effectively.

If you want to get super in-depth, one of my favorite courses is this one hosted on Masterclass.

Alternatives to Pro Tools

While Pro Tools may be the industry standard, it's not your only option when it comes to choosing a DAW. In fact, there are a number of excellent alternatives that you may discover give Pro Tools a run for its money.

Logic and Cubase are some of the most popular options, and each has its own unique strengths and weaknesses.

If you're looking for a more affordable option, Reaper is another excellent choice. While it may not be as feature-rich as some of the other options, it's more than capable of getting the job done.
