Many users have reported similar problems, and the good news is that there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to fix the issue. From audio drivers to hardware issues, there are many things that can cause sound to stop coming out of your laptop’s speakers or headphones.

Let’s get straight into some possible troubleshooting fixes! Hopefully, we can save you a trip to the store!

What you can do to fix the problem yourself:

1. Check the audio settings on your computer

  • Make sure the monitor is not muted or the volume is turned down.
  • Check the PC/laptop settings and make sure it is not muted or the volume is turned down.

Additionally, check that the sound output device in Windows/Mac OS is set to the monitor.
  • Check the cable connection. If connected by HDMI, make sure the connection is secure and try another HDMI (Premium) certified cable.

If connected by VGA, ensure the audio cable is connected to the AUDIO/LINE/HEADPHONE OUT port and plugged into the AUDIO/LINE IN of the monitor.
  • Try another PC/laptop or speaker for cross-checking.
  • Use the troubleshooter to resolve audio playback issues in Windows. Open Control Panel, click Troubleshooting, then under Hardware and Sound click Troubleshoot audio playback.
  • Run Audio Check in ASUS Support Assistant to make sure that the audio device is functioning properly. In Windows, search for and open ASUS Support Assistant. On the My Dashboard tab, click Fixes & Diagnostics.

Click Audio Check in the One click fixes section. Click Next and wait for the audio test to complete.
  • Adjust your sound card’s settings if necessary. Depending on the type of sound card you have, you may need to adjust the settings to ensure that sound is coming out of the correct audio source (e.g. the monitor’s speakers).

You can also check to make sure that the volume is turned up and that the mute button is not enabled.

If you are unsure how to adjust your sound card’s settings, you can consult its manual or seek the assistance of a qualified technician.

2. Update the computer’s drivers

Updating your computer drivers is another great place to start if your ASUS monitor isn’t working – it could be that your graphic and chipset drivers need some love!

The latest versions of these could be just what you need to get the new monitor detected. And while you’re at it, check out the audio driver too.

Once all that’s sorted, have a look at the resolution configuration and refresh rate to make sure the graphics card can handle it.

If none of this works, give resetting the monitor a shot and you might just find everything fixed up nice and dandy.

In order to check the speaker’s connection and ensure it is secure, you will need to follow these steps:

1. First, check the settings on the monitor to make sure the speakers are enabled and connected to the correct audio source.

2. Then, check your audio connection or cable to make sure it is securely connected to both the monitor and your computer.

3. If using an HDMI connection, make sure it is securely connected to your computer.

4. If using a separate audio cable, make sure it is firmly connected to your monitor and your computer’s audio-out port.

5. Finally, check your computer’s sound card settings. Depending on the type of sound card you have, you may need to adjust the settings to ensure that sound is coming out of the correct audio source.

6. Additionally, make sure that the volume is turned up and that the mute button is not enabled.

5. Try a different audio cable

If the audio is not coming through when connected with an HDMI cable, using a different audio cable such as an audio cable, optical cable, or RCA cables may help fix the problem.

If the device being connected does not support an audio signal through the HDMI connection, using a different cable can help provide the necessary audio signal.

Additionally, checking that the audio output settings on both the TV/monitor and the device are correctly set to the HDMI connection can also help troubleshoot any sound issues caused by incorrect settings.
